The Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio recommends that any time you are considering hiring a Professional Surveyor; you confirm that the individual is licensed to practice the Profession of Surveying in the State of Ohio.  You may do so by visiting the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors at www.peps.ohio.gov and selecting the “License Lookup” tab at the top of the page.

Governor signs HB 32

House Bill 32 was signed by Gov. John Kasich Feb. 21, 2012. The signed bill did include the amendment that was secured by PLSO.

New position added to job postings

PLSO members now can check the members-only section for job postings. The first job for a licensed professional surveyor was posted Feb. 22, 2012. Click the “Advertise with PLSO” button on the home page for more information about posting a job.

Submit comments to FCC by March 1

The Federal Communications Commission issued a public notice Feb. 15, 2012 proposing that it withdraw the January 2011 waiver that allowed LightSquared to proceed with its planned wireless network and modify LightSquared’s satellite license to prohibit LightSquared from building any ground-based wireless network.

This is a great step forward for protecting GPS from interference. But it is not the final step. The FCC is now seeking public comment on its two proposals. (more…)

2011 Annual Report available

The PLSO 2011 Annual Report was made available to members at the Annual Conference Feb. 8-11, 2012 in Columbus. The report is now available electronically and was uploaded to the members-only section of the PLSO website. Included in the booklet are reports from the president, executive director, committees and chapters. Check out the annual report to learn the latest from the PLSO.

FCC comment deadline Feb. 27

The Jan. 31, 2012 Coalition to Save Our GPS Clips included excerpts from a series of articles regarding LightSquared including the Federal Communications Commisssion is seeking public comment on a petition for declaratory ruling by LightSquared that says GPS receivers aren’t entitled to protection from interference. Read LightSquared’s Petition for Declaratory Relief.

The FCC has asked for comments related to LightSquared’s claim that, “Commercial GPS receivers are not licensed, do not operate under any service rules, and thus are not entitled to any interference protection whatsoever,” requesting that the FCC “not grant interference protection to global positioning systems”. H.B. 32 amendment passes Senate committee

The Ohio Senate amendment was proposed to be added to House Bill 32 by Sen. David Burke at the Senate Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing Jan. 24, 2012.  The amendment was accepted by the committee, and the bill was passed out of committee with a favorable recommendation to the Senate.
