The Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio recommends that any time you are considering hiring a Professional Surveyor; you confirm that the individual is licensed to practice the Profession of Surveying in the State of Ohio. You may do so by visiting the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors at www.peps.ohio.gov and selecting the “License Lookup” tab at the top of the page.

PLSO and Firelands Chapter member Raymond Foos, PS, who was a featured speaker at the PLSO continuing professional development workshop June 14, 2013 in Marion wrote a story on the Culver-Davies Baseline which ran in Point of Beginning magazine. The story is titled “A Baseline to Remember”. “Sixteen years ago, long before the widespread use of robotic total stations and GPS surveying equipment, a small group of surveyors gathered at some forgotten location,” Foos said in the introduction to his story. U.S. Air Force has produced a seven-minute video summarizing the worldwide role of GPS and touching on the GPS modernization program and new signals. The video explains in simple terms how important GPS has become to everyday life — for aircraft and ship navigation, global financial transactions, precision agriculture, weather forecasting, disaster relief and even smartphones. Historic Fort Steuben held its Ohio Valley Frontier Days June 8, 2013 and June 9, 2013 in Steubenville, Ohio. PLSO President George Hofmann, President-elect Brian Bingham, 2011 PLSO President Don Pickenpaugh, National Society of Professional Surveyors Gov. Bob Akins and PLSO member Phil Lawrence attended the event which included the unveiling of an 1830 historic survey marker. Read the press release.

Company certificates of authorization cannot be renewed online. Certificates of authorization to provide surveying services in Ohio expire June 30 each year. The state board mails company certificate of authorization annual renewal reminders each April. Filing instructions are included with the downloaded application packet. The renewal fee is $25 on or before June 30, and $37.50 on or after July 1. (more…)
