LightSquared explores ‘spectrum swap’

According to GPS World, The McChrystal Group, led by retired four-star general Stanley McChrystal, contacted a U.S. Department of Defense official on behalf of LightSquared to discuss “a spectrum swap”.  The article notes that moving LightSquared’s license to a different radio frequency spectrum has been suggested by some as a possible exit strategy from the LightSquared/GPS interference conflict.

FCC comment deadline Feb. 27

The Jan. 31, 2012 Coalition to Save Our GPS Clips included excerpts from a series of articles regarding LightSquared including the Federal Communications Commisssion is seeking public comment on a petition for declaratory ruling by LightSquared that says GPS receivers aren’t entitled to protection from interference. Read LightSquared’s Petition for Declaratory Relief.

The FCC has asked for comments related to LightSquared’s claim that, “Commercial GPS receivers are not licensed, do not operate under any service rules, and thus are not entitled to any interference protection whatsoever,” requesting that the FCC “not grant interference protection to global positioning systems”. H.B. 32 amendment passes Senate committee

The Ohio Senate amendment was proposed to be added to House Bill 32 by Sen. David Burke at the Senate Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing Jan. 24, 2012.  The amendment was accepted by the committee, and the bill was passed out of committee with a favorable recommendation to the Senate. Surveying museum debuts video

The National Museum of Surveying has released a promotional movie that is a five-minute virtual tour of the museum. The National Museum of Surveying is the only museum and tourist attraction of its kind in the country and is located in Springfield, Ill.
