______________________________EDM CALIBRATION BASELINESPlanning is underway to establish a new CBL at Kipton near Oberlin in Lorain County. This effort is led by Rusty Rosebeck. When this CBL is ready to measure, possibly next year, David Conner, National Geodetic Survey (NGS) Advisor to the State of Ohio, will arrange a loan of NGS' CBL equipment to Ohio and do the required field work. Other Ohio CBLs not checked during a recent field campaign could be measured at that time. In an effort to design a system at Kipton that will satisfy the needs of a broader cross section of surveying instruments, is anyone using a Wild/Leica DI-2000 Distomat (mounts on the telescope of a theodolite, made in the late 1980s-early 1990s) or a Wild/Leica TC-1600i total station (manufactured 1985-1992)? Responses to this inquiry should be forwarded to David Conner via e-mail at conner@cfm.Ohio-State.edu, by phone at 614-292-1619 or Rusty Rosebeck via e-mail at rusty_rose@centurytel.net, by phone at 440-988-4657. ______________________________VETERAN'S ADMINISTRATION WILL REIMBURSE EXAM FEESThe VA has approved the FE, FS, PE and PS exams for reimbursement of examination fees to qualified veterans under the GI bill. After you take the exam, a copy of your test results and a form is submitted to the VA for reimbursement of exam fees (not application or final registration fees). You can download the application form here or from the State Board of Registration's web site at www.ohiopeps.org. This new program will save examinees between $140 and $220 per exam, leaving only a $25 application fee per exam and a $30 final registration fee to be paid to the Board. ______________________________THE DEFINITION OF THE PRACTICE OF SURVEYINGProposed changes to the Definition of the Practice of Surveying, as cited in Chapter 4733 of the Ohio Revised Code, were adopted by the PLSO Executive Committee at its meeting on May 14, 2004. These suggested revisions have been forwarded to the State Board of Registration for their review and possible future legislative action. A copy of PLSO's proposal is available for viewing here. |
